The Cardinals opened their season against Minnesota State University Moorhead with a home loss 2-4. They couldn't overcome their shortened bench as they were missing 4 players: captain Bix Johnson (suspension), alternate captain Mike Petrecca (suspension), alternate captain Bennett Weestrand (illness), and hotshot rookie Conor Haggerty. The team battled hard despite that tough conditions. It was a game of many firsts as multiple players suited up for their debut in a cardinal jersey. Goalie Joe Markert had himself an amazing game posting 54 saves on 58 shots. The first goal scorer of this young season was freshman Seth Vagts who was assisted by Lenny Boberg. The second goal scorer of the game was sophomore alternate captain Gavin Mack with a beautiful breakaway goal that was assisted by freshman Ross Davis.
We look forward to having our players return and seeing what a full powered Cardinal lineup can look like.
